Learning by Questions – Homework

This year, we are delighted to be extending our use of Learning by Questions (LBQ) across the whole school as part of our homework provision. LBQ was previously used successfully with Year 6, and we are now introducing it to all year groups.

Learning by Questions is an online learning platform that provides children with carefully designed questions linked to the curriculum they are learning in school. The questions are interactive and give children immediate feedback, helping them to recognise what they know, address any mistakes and develop their understanding.

How does it work?

Teachers set homework activities for children to complete through the LBQ platform. Each activity consists of a series of questions focused on a particular area of learning.

Children log in to LBQ at home using their school login details and complete the questions independently. As they work, LBQ provides instant feedback, so children know whether their answers are correct and can have another go when they make a mistake.

The system allows children to work at their own pace and provides teachers with information about how they have performed. Teachers can see which questions children have answered successfully and identify areas where children may need further support or additional teaching.

Parents and carers do not need to mark the work. We simply ask that you encourage your child to complete their LBQ homework and support them with accessing the platform where necessary. The aim is for children to take increasing responsibility for completing their homework independently.

Why are we using LBQ?

LBQ homework gives children regular opportunities to practise and consolidate their learning. It also helps them to develop confidence, independence and resilience by encouraging them to learn from mistakes and have another go.

For teachers, the information provided by LBQ is valuable in helping us to understand what children have remembered and where further teaching or practice may be needed.

We hope that using LBQ consistently across the school will provide an engaging and manageable approach to homework, while strengthening the link between learning in school and learning at home.
