Governance
Welcome to our Governance page
Wenlock CE Academy joined the Diocese of St Albans Multi Academy Trust (DSAMAT) in February 2023.
DSAMAT was founded by the Diocese of St Albans, and is a Trust working with schools across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. The DSAMAT community has a strong commitment to a shared mission.
This is underpinned by our shared values:
Enabling all to flourish: Rooted in God’s Love
Hope, nurture, collaboration, equality, respect
Our Trust is governed by a range of bodies:
Our Members are appointed by the Diocese of St Albans Educational Trust.
Members have strategic oversight for the work of the Trust, and include representatives from the Diocesan Board of Finance and Diocesan Board of Education. These bodies reflect the range of skills required to oversee an Academy Trust.
Trustees, also known as Directors, of the Trust are appointed by the Members and have strategic responsibility for its running of the Trust. The Trust schools have Local Governing Boards (LGBs) who provide local governance to each school, and feed into the wider strategic work of the Directors.
Local Governing Boards Individual academies are governed at a local level by their own Local Governing Board (LGB). LGBs have a level of delegated responsibility from the Directors which is outlined within the Governance Framework and financial delegation.

Wenlock's Local Governing Board
Our LGB is made up of local stakeholders who represent the different parts of our Academy’s community, with the objective of providing Wenlock CE Academy with sound governance within the overarching governance structure of the Diocese of St Alban’s Multi Academy Trust (DSAMAT). Our primary objective is to ensure the best outcomes for the Academy’s children and young people.
The LGB consists of a maximum of nine members and should include parents, staff and appointed governors. Our LGB meets around six times a year. As part of the DSAMAT, Wenlock CE Academy operates under an agreed Governance Framework.
If you are interested in being a part of the LGB please speak to Ms Burke or Mr Hudson.
To contact the LGB, please contact the Academy directly and mark your correspondence to the attention of the Chair of Governors.
Note: For the day to day running and management of the Wenlock CE Academy, the first points of contact are the admin team, class teacher and Head and Assistant Headteacher.
Who are we?

Simon Salem - Chair of Governors
(To contact the chair use the school address/ email)
I was selected as Chair soon after the School joined the multi-academy trust in early 2023. I am a firm believer in the right of every member of our society to have a good education. Being a school governor is one way of doing that. I have been a governor in other schools, and a trustee of many local and national charities. At the moment, I am also a trustee at the Chiltern Open Air Museum which is a lovely collection of heritage buildings, farm animals and plants in Buckinghamshire. I have also been a Listening Volunteer with Samaritans for over ten years and that still keeps me busy too!
Charity Yearwood - Safeguarding Governor
Over the past two decades, I have dedicated myself to fostering a love for learning among students across Luton, particularly in science education. My leadership roles have enabled me to guide teams towards academic excellence through innovative teaching methodologies. I have also contributed to teacher training programmes and mentored new educators, supporting the development of future teachers. I am particularly committed to safeguarding students’ mental health and creating a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive as they learn. I look forward to collaborating with you all in this vital work.
Mr Joseph Adewale - Community Governor
As a Community Governor, I bring a deep passion for nurturing the development of young minds. With my background as a priest and a solid foundation in psychology, I am dedicated to supporting children's cognitive growth and learning potential.
I strongly believe in the transformative power of education and its ability to shape future leaders. Becoming a School Governor allows me to contribute meaningfully to the school community by promoting an environment where every child can thrive academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
This role provides me with a unique opportunity to combine my pastoral care, understanding of human behaviour, and passion for learning to support both students and staff in achieving excellence.
Olivia Burke - Head Teacher at Wenlock CE Academy
I was lucky enough to be appointed Headteachnlock, in April 2023. I was once told that the
school is never yours, just that you become the custodian for a short time in its history, the aim being
to leave it in a better place than when you found it. Being the headteacher of such a wonderful school, with an amazingly dedicated team is an honour.
Rachel Anderson - Staff Governor

I have been a teacher at Wenlock for the last thirteen years, and was fortunate enough to
complete various work experience placements here prior to that. Wenlock holds a very
special place in my heart and I am excited to sit on the school's governing board to help
the school continue to flourish on its new and exciting journey with the Trust.
Isaac Adegbola - Parent representative
I am a health service professional, currently working as Mental Health Staff in Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
I choose to be a Parent Governor so that I can represent parents in the Governing Body and support in triangulating the educational processes at Wenlock CE Academy.
